Creating a Card with Heat Embossing and Ink Resist Technique

I finally have time to catch up on my card making. I had been working part-time, even though I retired a year ago April. I finished working last Thursday so hopefully I now will have the time to keep my blog up to date with my crafting. LOL! Let’s hope so!

Today’s card is done with heat embossing and ink resist. I have done this technique before some time ago, but after watching a video by Gina K, I decided to make another card using this technique. I did use her card as a guide but added a few things to make it my own.

After stamping my image in VersaMark ink, I added clear embossing powder and heat set it. I then started in the middle with my Light Carnation ink and began to lightly add color to the area around the image. The embossing powder resists the ink, so it stayed white, the color of my cardstock. When you are done adding color, just take a soft cloth to buff the embossed area to remove any residual ink. I then used the stitched die set from Lawn Fawn to cut out the middle of the image.

On another piece of white cardstock, I stamped my butterfly image using VersaMark ink and added clear embossing powder. After heat setting it, I started in the middle with my Light Carnation ink to add color around the image. I then went back in with my Medium Carnation ink and started in the middle but did not go out as far as the Light Carnation ink. I repeated the process with the Dark Carnation ink so that just the very center had the darkest color. I added some small black pearls to enhance the butterfly.

Again, I used the Lawn Fawn stitched rectangle dies to cut out the panel. I mounted both panels on Black Onyx cardstock and adhered them to the original panel making sure that I lined up my first two panels with the background image so it appears to be one continuous image.

I stamped my sentiment in white pigment ink and then added white embossing powder and heat set it. By stamping in white pigment ink first, I get a better result when embossing on black cardstock. I trimmed it down and added it to my card.

Thanks for stopping by and Happy Crafting!
