Monochromatic Card Design with Gina K’s Wildflower Stems

My card today was inspired by Gina K’s recent video using her Wildflower Stems embossing folder and stencils. She was demonstrating coloring in monochrome colors. This is my take on the technique.

My first step was to emboss my panel using the embossing folder. Before placing my paper in the embossing folder, I first sprayed a light mist of water to both the front and back of the panel. This helps to keep my cardstock from cracking or tearing when running it through the die cutting machine.

I ran the embossing folder through my die cutting machine twice to make sure I had a good impression.

Once I had my impressed image, I used the stencils to add some color to the images. I wanted to follow the monochromatic color scheme with one area with another soft color. I know this defeats the “monochromatic color scheme, but I wanted a little something different.

I started with my lightest gray with a very light hand. With the second stencil, I used the same color but applied it a little heavier. For the third stencil, I applied my darkest color.

I only used one “color” for the one remaining image. I first applied a very light application of the color and gradually increased the intensity in some areas.

I really liked the color combination of the soft rose and soft gray.

Once I had all of the images colored, I used a smaller blending brush to add some shadows to the images to give them a little more depth.

I added my panel to a Dusty Rose card base. For my sentiment, I die cut my sentiment from some black glossy cardstock and the shadow from the same Dusty Rose as the card base.

My inside sentiment is from the new Fanciful Pansies stamp set that I received as part of my monthly subscription with Altenew. I stamped the sentiment black pigment ink, added some detail clear embossing powder and heat set it.

I wanted to keep this card pretty simple so I didn’t add any bling to the front of the card. I will probably do this technique again in some future cards, maybe changing it up a bit.

Thanks for stopping by and Happy Crafting!
