Creative Stenciling and Die Cutting Techniques

Today’s card involves stenciling, die cutting and stamping. It also used a die cover plate.

  • I first colored the Botanical Bunch using a blending brush and different inks from Altenew.
  • Once I had the images colored, I added some additional color with colored pencils to enhance some of the finer details.
  • After finishing the coloring, I cut the image in half as I wanted to arrange it so it was on the top and bottom of my card but leave space in the middle for my sentiment.

  • I had intended to use a background stencil to create a panel for my image and sentiment but wasn’t happy with any of the backgrounds I had choosen.
  • One of the things I want to do this year is to try to use some of my older items. In looking through my stash, I found a cover plate from Lawn Fawn that would work.
  • I cut down a piece of Bubblegum cardstock and ran it through my die cutting machine with the coverage plate. The plate does not cut the paper, but instead impresses a pattern in the paper.
  • I added some Bubblegum Pink ink to the edges of the panel and then adhered it to a Dove card base.

  • For my sentiment, I chose an older die that I had that also had the shadow.
  • I die cut the words from some matte silver cardstock and the shadow from some Doll Pink cardstock.
  • After adhering the sentiment to the shadow, I added it to the center of my panel.
  • I then added the pieces of my floral stencil to the top and bottom of my card, cutting off any part that was hanging over the edges.

Because I was mailing the card, I did not add any dimension behind the florals or any other embellishments. I could have added an additional die cut or foam squares behind my sentiment, but decided to leave it as it have a slight dimension to it already.

This was a fun card to create that only took me about two hours from start to finish.
