Creative Christmas Cards: Die Cutting Inspiration

I’m finally getting back to posting cards. I make 60 Christmas cards to send to family and friends at the holidays. My card this year featured St. Nick.

My Christmas card this year featured die cutting. Spellbinders makes some great dies. St. Nick Etched Dies from their Home for the Holidays collection is no exception. Each piece is die cut separately from his coat to his eyes. I didn’t have a brown cardstock that I liked for the tree trunks, so I created my own by coloring some white cardstock.I believe there were 27 pieces just for St. Nick!

  • After die cutting all of my pieces, I started the process of assembling St Nick and the Christmas trees.
  • Once the assembly was complete, I then created the background for my card.
  • I die cut some white cardstock using an older die that I had, Stitched Slopes and Hills from Simon Says Stamp.
  • I cut my panels to fit on my card base and then added ink down to just below where my slope would be at the bottom.
  • I then began the assembly of my card front.
  • After adding all of the images, I added some silver stars that I had on hand to give the appearance of a night sky.

  • My sentiment is from Pinkfresh Studios, Holiday Greetings stamp and die. I stamped the sentiment using Versa Clair Nocturne ink.
  • Because this ink is a pigment ink, I was able to add some clear embossing powder and heat emboss the sentiment. This gives a shiny raised appearance to the sentiment.
  • My usual process is to die cut an additional piece or two of the sentiment and glue them to the back of the sentiment. This gives some dimension to the sentiment.

  • For the inside of my card, I added Snowflake Edges from Simon Says Stamp along one side with some Silver Metallic ink.
  • Once the ink was dry, I added some light color around the edges.
  • My sentiment is an older set from Stampin’ Up, More Merry Messages. I stamped the first part of the sentiment using Green Oasis Versa Clair ink and the bottom part of the sentiment in Tulip Red, also Versa Clair ink.

I have one more Christmas card to share, hopefully in the next couple of days. I make a different card for my Grandchildren and Great Nieces and Nephews.

Thanks for stopping by and Happy Crafting!
