Summertime Palms BetterPress Plate and Die Cutting Card Tutorial

I have a fun card to share today that uses a BetterPress plate, die cutting and ink blending. I have been a member of the different Spellbinder’s Monthly Clubs in the past for dies and BetterPress plates. Several months ago, I saw the BetterPress plate and die set as one of their monthly offerings. I loved both of them.

For my background, I used the Summertime Palms BetterPress plate with some Hero arts ink. Most inks work well with the BetterPress system. I inked up the plate and ran it through my Intri-Cut die cutting and embossing machine. Because I wanted a little darker in, I inked up the plate and ran it through my die cutting machine a second time. The die cutting machine adds the pressure to “press” the ink into the cardstock.

Once I was satisfied with the color, I used Master Layouts #1 to cut the panel down. I also cut a black panel for my mat. I added both to a white card base.

My next step was to cut out all of the die cuts. To add more depth to the die cuts, I added some ink blending to all of the pieces. This applied some shading to the flowers, leaves, and birds.

Once I was satisfied with the shading, I began putting my images together. They are easy to put together. I referred to the packing of the die cuts to place the feathers of the birds.

I then arranged my images on the background using foam squares to pop up one of the birds.

My sentiment is a sentiment from a Poly-Glaze sheet that I had previously foiled. I cut the sentiment out with the coordinating die. I also cut three additional white die cuts to add to the back of my sentiment.

This was a fun card to put together. You can use any color of cardstock to create your images. You can even cut them out of white cardstock and just add ink over them to create your own colors. So may possibilities with this die set.

Thanks for stopping by and Happy Crafting!
