Today’s card combines both stenciling and die cutting. I made this card into a birthday card, but the layout could be used for other occasions also.

To create my background:
- I cut two pieces of cardstock, one in white and one in black for the mat.
- I created a mask using some Masking Magic and a landscape die so I could separate the water from the sandy beach.
- I then applied ink to the Sea Foam stencil from Waffle Flower in my lighter blue color. I then turned the stencil 90 degrees and added my second darker color.
- Once I was done with the water, I removed the mask from the bottom of my paper and applied a mask over the portion I had just colored.
- I ink blended the bottom with my lightest tan color. The Inquisitive Seagulls stamp set has a stamp you can use to add “dots” to the sand to give the appearance of the different colors in the sand. I stamped it using a couple different shades of tan and brown.

Creating my focal point:
- To create the umbrellas, I used the Beach Umbrella stencil and die from Waffle Flower.
- I first used the stencil to add color to my cardstock. I knew I wanted to have three umbrellas on my card so I created three sections of color, one for each umbrella. I then die cut the umbrellas, one large and two smaller ones.
- For my sentiment, I stamped the sentiment in Black Onyx ink and then in VersaMark Watermark ink.
- I added Black embossing powder and heat set the sentiment.
I then moved on to put my card together.

Putting it all together:
- I added the smaller umbrellas to each side at the bottom using glue at the bottom and foam squares towards the top. For the large umbrella, I added foam squares to the entire umbrella.
- I added Glossy Accents to the button of each umbrella.
- For a little more sparkle, I added some clear sequins from my stash.

I did not know how large my umbrellas were going to be and how much of the card bottom they would cover until I had created them. When I use the umbrellas again, I will do more planning on placement and size before I spend so much time coloring the beach. I might also use only one or two umbrellas instead of all three. Once I added the umbrellas to my card, most of the “sand” was covered up so you couldn’t see the details.
