Embossing Resist and Copic Coloring Techniques for Card Making

Today’s card uses embossing resist and Copic coloring.

To create the background for my card:

  1. I first cut two panels one in white and one in black using Master Layouts #1.
  2. I added my white panel to the center of my Stamping Wheel.
  3. I placed the Vintage Filigree background stamp centering it over my card panel.
  4. I first added ink to the bottom third of the background stamp blurring the top line of ink with a blending brush. I stamped the image and then added another layer of ink and stamped the image a second time.
  5. I cleaned off my stamp and added my second color making sure that I brought the color down over where my first color had been stamped. Again, I used a blending brush to blur both the top and the bottom of the ink. This helps with blending of the two colors on my card stock. I also stamped it a second time.
  6. I again cleaned off my stamp and added my third color. I used the same process of blurring the ink where it overlapped with the other color. I repeated the process of adding the ink and blurring it so I could stamp the image a second time.
  7. After cleaning off my stamp, I added VersaMark Watermark ink to the entire stamp and stamped over the inked image. I repeated this process twice to make sure that I had good coverage.
  8. I added clear embossing powder and heat set the entire image.
  9. Once I had this done, I added a very light coat of ink over the entire panel using a blending brush. Because I had embossed the image, the stamped image resisted the ink. When I was done with adding the ink, I took a soft cloth to remove any ink from the embossing.
  10. I adhered my panel to the black mat and then onto my card base.

The next step was to create the focal point.

  1. I stamped my image using my Stamping Wheel making sure to use a Copic friendly ink.
  2. I colored the image using my Copic markers.
  3. I cut the image out using the coordinating die. I also cut three additional copies from white cardstock to place behind my colored image.
  4. I added my image to the center of my embossed panel.
  5. I stamped my sentiment on black cardstock with VersaMark Watermark ink and added white embossing powder.
  6. I heat set the embossing powder with my heat tool and then trimmed my sentiment down.
  7. I added my sentiment to the middle of my focal point.
