Stenciling, Die Cutting, and Prismacolor Pencils: Floral Card Making Process

For today’s card, I used a combination of stenciling, die cutting and coloring with Prismacolor pencils.

Card panel process:

  1. I first cut my card panels using Master Layouts #1, one white panel and one black panel.
  2. I used one side of the Decorative Double stencil to add some detail to my white panel with Soft Stone ink.
  3. I centered the stencil in the middle of my white panel and added the ink using a blending brush.
  4. Once I completed the stenciling, I then stamped the floral images using black ink over the stenciling towards the top part of the panel.
  5. I then adhered the panel to the black mat and then to a cream-colored top folding card base.

Focal image process:

  1. Using the same floral images that I stamped on the stenciled panel, I again stamped the image using black ink on kraft cardstock.
  2. I used my Prismacolor pencils to color the images.
  3. Once I had my images colored, I used the coordinating dies to cut the images out using my Intri-Cut die cutting machine.
  4. I cut out three additional images out using white card stock to glue behind my images to raise them up from my panel.

Coloring on Kraft paper with Prismacolor pencils is a little different than coloring on paper with a tooth which is normally the paper I use for pencils. The Kraft paper does not have any “tooth”, so blending takes a little more practice. I always start with a light pressure so I can add several layers of color making blending a little easier.

Completing the card:

  1. I adhered my colored images to my card panel, positioning them towards the bottom of my card.
  2. For my sentiment, I stamped the sentiment in black ink and then again in VersaMark Watermark ink.
  3. After adding clear embossing powder, I heat set my sentiment.
  4. I cut the sentiment out using the coordinating die. I cut an additional one from white cardstock to add to the back of my sentiment to raise it slightly above my card panel.
  5. Finally, I added some small white pearls.

Thanks so much for stopping by and Happy Crafting!
